Overview

Indiana University's Bologna Consortial Studies Program (BCSP) at the University of Bologna is focused on providing you with a full immersion, language study experience. You will have an ample choice of subject matters offered at the University of Bologna and the BCSP study center. Since you will take a blend of coursework alongside local Italian students, you must have at least 4 semesters of Italian, or the equivalent, prior to departure.

Academics

The BCSP program in Bologna is located in a dynamic city in northern Italy internationally known for its ancient, prestigious university and vibrant student scene. At the core of the program's curriculum, you will gain a deeper knowledge of Italy's role in European history, arts, and economy.

You will be enrolled in an average of 2 classes per semester alongside your Italian peers at the University of Bologna. The University of Bologna offers a wide range of courses in the humanities and the social and natural sciences. You will also take specialized courses arranged by the BCSP center in topics such as Italian Literature, Language, Art History, Film Studies, Civilization, and Contemporary Politics.

Program Features

Upon acceptance into the program, the BCSP staff will assist you with locating apartments in Bologna. You will live in a shared apartment with Italian peers and occasionally other international students.

BCSP will arrange a variety of excursions and activities designed to help you get acquainted with other students in the program and feel comfortable in your new surroundings. The majority of the excursions will focus on Italian art and architecture of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance or Contemporary periods.

To apply, you must complete the two steps below. Deadlines vary and some applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Therefore, you should complete the steps below:

  • To apply for Columbia clearance (approval) to study abroad, click on "Start Your Application" on this webpage. Clearance applications are approved on a rolling basis until the application deadline listed on this webpage.
  • Clearance applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis or reviewed soon after the application deadline. If eligible, you will be nominated as an exchange student. If nominated, our office, The Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement, will provide further information about the next steps in the nomination process. You will be required to submit additional materials to be formally admitted to the university.
