Approved Programs

In order to receive academic credit for study abroad, students must select a program from the Office of Global Program's list of approved study abroad programs. These programs have been reviewed and approved by the Faculty Committee for Study Abroad and meet the academic and programmatic standards of Columbia.

Students may participate either on a Columbia-administered program, or on an approved non-Columbia program. Non-Columbia programs may be managed by another university’s international office (e.g. Middlebury’s Programs in Russia), may be run by an academic consortium (e.g. CIEE in Brazil), or may be run by an outside organization in partnership with local institutions (e.g. Interstudy at the University of Cape Town). Columbia also has direct enrollment agreements with many partner institutions abroad, as well as a growing number of exchange agreements with universities abroad.

There are usually a number of approved programs in any country. One resource for learning more about these programs is the database of returned Columbia student evaluations. Another is the advisors at OGP.
