The program offers access to a range of courses through Tsinghua’s
School of Humanities and Social Sciences where participants take
regular university classes alongside their Chinese peers.
“Taking classes with
Chinese students was one of the best aspects of the program. My professors were
amicable, and were eager to help students with questions."
The School includes the departments of philosophy, Chinese language and
literature, foreign languages, history, sociology, and political
science, and institutes in economics and international relations.
For students with other interests, they may be allowed to register for up
to two courses outside of the School.
In addition, all students are required to enroll in one language course and for students who obtain a
low score on the onsite language placement test, they may be
recommended to take additional Chinese language courses in place of
their regular university courses.
To facilitate the transition into the Chinese university system, the
program begins with a Language and Culture Workshop designed to help
students sharpen their Chinese skills before they begin their
university courses and to familiarize them with Chinese academic
culture and campus life.

“I would have not had such an enjoyable academic experience or would have learned so much without the guidance, assistance and patience of my tutors. Assigning us tutors is a fabulous idea
Additionally, Tsinghua University graduate students are assigned to tutor program students in their main areas of study and also to help them navigate the Chinese academic system. A Tsinghua facultymember advises students on their academic programs and the program assistant organizes co-curricular activities.
