It focuses on developing Mandarin Chinese communication skills and exploring contemporary Chinese society and culture. The program offers an integrated curriculum that links the language classes, a Chinese studies course taught both in English and Chinese, a one-week Chengdu Module, and field trips in and around Nanjing.
Students take two courses in Chinese language at the appropriate level and one Contemporary Chinese Studies course which is taught in English and Chinese. Students live either in homestays, or with Chinese roommates on campus.
