This program is designed for students with an intermediate command of the Spanish language from most majors. Students enroll in a Spanish language class and regular university classes alongside of their Costa Rican peers at the Universidad de Costa Rica. UCR, the oldest university in the country, has an extensive campus, approximatel;y 30,000 students and offers a good variety of subjects and faculties. Particularly strong are literature and social sciences.

While in San Jose, students live with host families and can get involved with the local community through volunteer projects, campus groups and activities. The campus offers extensive sports facilities, arts venues, and beautiful grounds.
