BGU is located in Beer Sheva, Israel's fourth largest city, situated in the Negev desert. Its location on the main trading road between East and West and its accessibility to water sources contributed to its importance and development throughout history. BGU remains true to its founding purpose by actively promoting hi-tech industry, agriculture, health services and education in the Negev region, while also building bridges of peace between Israel and its Arab neighbors through initiatives in science, research and development. Its diverse student body hails from all over Israel and includes native born Israelis, Jews and Arabs, including Bedouin, as well as new immigrants from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union.
Students are encouraged to take the Ulpan before the term begins. Those with strong enough Hebrew will take regular university course in Arts & Sciences, Social Sciences and other faculties. Environmental studies and E3B students may be interest in their desert studies program.
Students may not earn Columbia credit for classes taken in English at the International School.
